Email (short for Electronic Mail) is a method of exchanging digital messages over the Internet or other computer networks. It allows users to send and receive text messages, documents, images, and other files electronically between individuals or groups.

Components of an email

1. Header

The header includes essential information about the message:

  • From: The sender’s email address
  • To: The recipient’s email address
  • Cc (Carbon Copy): Sends a copy to additional recipients
  • Bcc (Blind Carbon Copy): Sends a copy without other recipients seeing it
  • Date: When the email was sent
  • Subject: The topic or title of the email

2. Salutation

A polite greeting to begin the message.
Example: “Dear Mr. John,” or “Hello team,”

3. Body

The main content of the email. It can include:

  • An introduction
  • Main message or details
  • A conclusion or call to action

4. Closing

A polite way to end the email.
Example: “Best regards,” “Sincerely,” “Thanks,”

Contains the sender’s name and contact details. May also include job title, company, or social links.

6. Attachments (Optional)

Files (documents, images, PDFs, etc.) added to the email for sharing.

7. Formatting Tools (in modern email clients)

Options to bold, underline, add bullet points, insert links, etc.
