Plants are living things. They grow, they breathe, and they give us fruits, shade and clean air.

What Plants Need

• 🌱 Water — plants drink water through their roots
• ☀️ Sunlight — plants need light to make food
• 🏚️ Air and soil — roots hold the plant in soil

Parts of a Plant

A plant has roots (under the soil), a stem (the trunk or stalk), leaves (that catch light) and sometimes flowers or fruits.

Practice

Find any plant (even in a pot) and point to its roots (look carefully!), stem, leaves and flowers. Water it gently if it is dry.
